The Musketeer -Trying to Give it The Benefit of the Doubt- Musketeer W/O
The Musketeer
Directed by: Peter Hyams
I only recommend this movie as a filler to an otherwise uneventful evening at home.
This is my contribution to Teskues Musketeer write off. Read the participant list at the end.
I will be the one of too many people to admit...

The Musketeer - New Take on an Old Tale
There have been numerous movies based on the Three Musketeers novel by Dumas... most of those versions were really quite well done and kept the original tone extremely well. This is not one of them. Don't get me wrong here, I did enjoy The Musketeer, but just not quite as much as any of the other... Read full review »
MUSKETEER WRITE-OFF -Peter Hyam's -The Musketeer -2001
Ordinarily, a good action flick can be forgiven a few glitches in flow, plot defects, and acting insufficiencies (as most of Arnold Schwarzenegger's efforts prove) if the action is good enough to stimulate an adrenaline rush that carries through to the end of the movie. This movie has some good... Read full review »
A Study in How NOT To Make a Film.
Last Friday I was going to visit a friend of mine that works the Midnight shift. He wasn't awake yet (it was seven in the evening) so I decided to kill a bit of time and see a film. I had been warned away from this film by a couple of reviews on the site here but I decided to watch the film anyhow... Read full review »
Fiddling With The Masters. The Musketeer.
It might sound strange for me to say that I feel that there is a good movie hiding somewhere within the largely unenjoyable ?The Musketeer?. Of course there is, you?re thinking to yourself, and it?s already been made, and more than once. It?s no great revelation to say that Dumas? story...

Have you ever made a movie on an ETCH A SKETCH? Peter Hyams has.
It took only a total of three minutes into The Musketeer for me to realize that I was about to watch a cinematic disaster. To be honest, everything about this film is BAD. Until today, I had no idea that film making was an event in the SPECIAL OLYMPICS. I'm sorry, but that's the most respectable... Read full review »
I'm trying to think how this movie could be stupider...gimme a minute.
Boasting the silliest opening credits in recent memory, and a laundry list of cinematic stupidity, The Musketeer easily ranks among the year's worst movies. Fans of "so bad it's good" filmmaking will have a field day, while everyone else in the room slowly grows retarded.
Making the Grade...

"Overdone Derring-Do"
Hollywood launches another assault on classic literature with this new $50 million adaptation of Alexandre Dumas's novel that's strong on action but weak on drama, fusing Hong Kong's martial arts with 17th-century swordplay.
The story chronicles the adventures of the dashing D'Artagnan...

'Musketeer' just falls flat...
Well, I suppose the first sign of trouble was the fact that aside from myself, the two guys I saw the film with, and two sets of two couples getting to know each other a little better (one in the front row, one in the back) the theater was empty. And for the most part, the couples inside the... Read full review »
Stay Away, Stay Far Away
With four children under five, it?s not often that my husband and I get to see a movie in the theater, let alone see one on opening day. As a result, we reserve our movie dates for only those movies that must be seen on the big screen. We weren?t really interested in seeing this movie, but my... Read full review »

Musketeer (dts)
Eighteenth Century France. When his parents are slaughtered by Cardinal Richelieu's man, Febre (Tim Roth), the young D'Artagnan is raised to be a musketeer by the loyal Planchet (Jean-Pierre Castaldi). Fourteen years later, Planchet takes the now-grown D'Artagnan (Justin Chambers) to Paris. There, they discover that the king's musketeers have been disbanded, that Richelieu (Stephen Rea) is plotting to undermine the monarchy, and that Febre is barely under control. So, the upstart D'Artagnan boldly sets out to reinvigorate the musketeers and save the monarchy--while taking revenge on Febre. In this version of Alexandre Dumas' much-filmed classic, director Peter Hyams and scriptwriter Gene Quintano switch focus from The Three Musketeers to D'Artagnan. Lavishly shot on location in France and Luxembourg by Hyams--acting as his own cinematographer-- THE MUSKETEER aims for the robust approach and brutal humor of Richard Fleischer's THE PRINCE AND THE PAUPER. Mixed in are fight sequences that utilize the skill of Hong
