If you are building a server or workstation and expect to need lots of RAID protected storage, and need to keep the cost down this is the card for you. With 8 sata connectors it can handle 8 drives in raid 0,1,0+1 and 5 configurations. Mine runs two RAID 1 arrays and one RAID 0+1 array - it was simple to install and configure, and performance is good but not stellar. That said it's in a PCI slot and to get the best performance it really needs a PCI-X slot to provide the bandwidth required.
Management software is ok, if a little quirky. The scheduled array verification does not seem to work.
